Read Ariel’s introduction for an explanation, but he basically took an e-mail I wrote him about what to to in Tokyo, and turned it into a Tokyo travel guide. Longfellow’s Bookstore
I visited my longtime friend Nile’s family bookstore, Longfellow’s Books & Music. The place is very quintessential Portland, in that its keeping is as relaxed and disheveled as the people that frequent it. This of course keeps its charm. But besides that, its home to a staggering collection of amazing rare and used books, music, and magazines– a basement full.

I Could Tell You But Then You Would Have to Be Destroyed by Me: Emblems from the Pentagon’s Black World
This is an amazing book… a look at one of the more humorous and most certainly strange sides of the culture of the United States Armed Forces. A recent acquaintance* picked it up from The New Museum’s excellently curated giftshop following a visit to the recent Emory Douglas: Black Panther show. I’ve been kicking myself for missing that.
