Here are some pages I scanned from TUNE magazine (an older Japanese street style mag affiliated with Fruits), presumably for some kind of inspiration.. Though many of these ‘themes’ feel a little dated, drawing 5 years later– the styling is still pretty on point. Also worth noting, at the time I’m sure seeing this probably felt quite a bit more ‘shocking’ then it does now.

Happy about this couple of publications– in spite of a lot of jeering by many of my friends, Monocle continues to be among my favorite reads, while the Vitra “The Home Collection 2008-09” magazine/catalogue/book ($10, same price as Monocle off the rack) will serve as inspiration..

Diane just got back from tour in South Korea, Japan, and Singapore.. brought me a few little things. She knows I love notebooks, so I always get a few..

Super proud moment for me, as Diane was the musical guest on the kick off episode of the Monocle Summer Series, a most heralded podcast. Monocle has been a favorite of mine since issue one, and their web content is equally as fantastic– both share beautiful graphical aesthetic and compliment the other nicely.

Something also worth noting in Diane’s performances on the show is the decidedly lo-fi live sound that she employed touring through Europe, with the use of a looping station: hand-made beats (cajon, claps, snaps), and layered vocals. Seeing is also believing, here it is on video live in Paris.

Gentle Air & Special

My christmas gift to Jarrett finally arrived, here’s what he said about it:

Ariel made me this book for Christmas, and it was easily the best present I received this year. Read Ariel’s introduction for an explanation, but he basically took an e-mail I wrote him about what to to in Tokyo, and turned it into a Tokyo travel guide. Oh yeah…he also had it translated into Japanese. Fucking amazing. Thanks dude…

Selectism seem to like it too!

I was recently gifted this photo-book of sorts– or really a collection of prints contributed by a couple handfuls of different street-type photographers. I had first discovered it when learning about the work of graphic designer Patrick Li, which you may recall amongst older posts.

A rad graduation present, thanks Sally!
