A very recent obsession/inspiration is 0FR Bookshop and their publications– one like my recent acquisition “Guide Paris.” As you may or may not know, I’ve been working on my own guide, and have had my eyes peeled for others that have been able to set a real standard– this is probably it! They have employ a beautiful aesthetic in everything they do, and have great taste..
Oddly, the day I picked this up– I went home and googled them to find that the owner Alexandre Thumerelle was in that day’s edition of T-Style’s “The Insider,” one of my favorite series. Nice coincidence.
Check them out..
I’ve had Serato going on 5 years now (the same ole box), its pretty incredible where they have arrived with the more recent software. I had to take a picture of my kitchen table setup as I was learning how to use the new improvements including built in FX, additional sample channels, etc.. as you can see, the entire set up can be controlled through a midi console, which is one of the coolest of new additions! Generally I hate the idea of computer DJing, but expanding possibilities to midi controllers and beyond makes things a bit more lively through such an interactive medium.
On DJing, generally you will find me using serato for my gigs accompanied by a stack vinyl trying to place (or hide) my laptop as discreetly as possible. However, something that also makes the hardware great is the option to skip songs by physically flipping the control record, a great way to stay closer to the purist vibe.. though its a far cry from the above image– there is nothing more frustrating to me than to see a DJ’s face under the glow of a macbook as they lifelessly go through the evening.
If you have no idea what I am talking about read up on it here.
This may sound silly, but I was told at the end of last year that camouflage was going to be a force in the year to follow. I scoffed at the idea, but its certainly come into fruition. Whereas a varied amount of designers will always dabble in camouflage year by year, its presence as a trend in 2010 is clear. Though the print is mostly Japan-centric (almost enforcing it into trend status as they often are), there are a few crossovers, many good (which we will cover), some not so good, and for women too.. love it or hate it, the trend this year is certainly undeniable.
Let’s explore:
